My First Apple Pie

I love food. But more than that, I love to bake!

It has to be one of the most fun and relaxing things for me to do. Sometimes I will look up a recipe and other times I'll create my own recipe.

I was so used to making cakes that one day I decided to make my first pie. And of course I wanted to go with the simple but classic kind, apple.

Now, just as a warning, I don't believe this exactly how the "original" apple pie is made.

Well, if we must be technical its an Apple Crumble Tart.

However, this one is sooooooo good that if you really love you an apple pie, you should try it.

So here is the recipe that I used to make my first apple pie!

Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cups of confectioners' sugar
pinch of salt
3/4 cup of unsalted butter, at room temperature (I used regular butter, I've never understood why does it have to be unsalted, hm, why?)
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1/2 cup of packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp of ground cloves
2 pounds of Fuji Apples (I used Granny Smith Apples)

Recipe:

Preheat oven to 375  ͦF.

Combine flour, confectioners' sugar and salt in a food processor. Pulse to blend. Cut butter into pieces and add to the processor with the vanilla.
Pulse until the butter is finely blended with the flour and the mixture has the texture of coarse sand with a few small pebbles.

Set aside 1 cup of the mixture and pour the rest into a 10-inch deep-dish pie pan. Press the dough firmly onto the bottom and the sides of the pan. Add brown sugar, cinnamon and cloves to the 1 cup of mixture you set aside and mix to blend.

Peel and core your apples. (Now here is the part that can make a difference. *If you are manually slicing the apples then follow these directions.) Arrange the apple slices in a even layer. After EACH layer, sprinkle some of the brown sugar mixture over the apples. Do this until you've reached the top (or run out of apples). Sprinkle the last of the brown sugar mixture on top to finish.

(*If you are using a mandoline slicer, which will give you extremely thin apple slices, follow these directions.) Arrange the apple slices in even layers. After every 3 layers, sprinkle some of the brown sugar mixture over the apples. Do this until you've reached the top (or run out of apples). Sprinkle the last of the brown sugar mixture on top to finish.

Bake until the apples are very tender and the top is lightly browned, about 50 minutes. Set aside to cool. Makes 8-10 servings.

And that's all folks. This recipe was from the Costco Connection's Smart Cooking Cookbook which I will link below. Hope you enjoy! Thanks for reading!

Love,
